Welcome to the Virginia State University Department of Engineering. We are dedicated to nurturing and challenging our students to become the industrial leaders of tomorrow – to be problem solvers, project leaders, communicators, and ethical professional citizens of a global community.
About the Department
The Department of engineering consists of Manufacturing Engineering and Computer Engineering programs that offer ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degrees. These programs prepare students for careers in industry and for further study in engineering graduate programs.
Both programs are committed to engineering innovation and interdisciplinary research. Our highly qualified faculty members challenge students to prepare for rapidly evolving fields of science and engineering through innovative curriculum and continuously educational process improvement.
Our close collaboration within the School of Engineering Science and Technology and with the university’s other excellent professional schools create rich options for research.
Our new engineering building with state-of-art lab equipment facilitates our research activities, as our students work together on projects in diverse areas such as:
- sustainable energy, and
In addition to the research-oriented learning environment on campus, our engineering students benefit from the University's proximity to many area industrial facilities, including Rolls-Royce, DuPont, Honeywell, Dominion Power, Alstom and Altria.
The Department of Engineering's mission is to specifically promote and sustain Bachelor of Science degree programs which meet the needs of industry and society, particularly in Central and Southside Virginia.
